Most residents recall their “Babcock Ranch Moment” — whether it was discovering the just right house in a welcoming neighborhood, exploring the parks and trails, or experiencing the distinct sense place in Founder’s square. There is something special about this innovative new hometown that resonates with homebuyers.

For Brian and Stacy Rodecap, 9-year-old son Redding and daughter Lorelei, 6, it was actually a combination of all these elements that brought them to Babcock Ranch.

While living in Fort Myers, the Rodecaps first learned about Babcock Ranch through local news coverage while construction of the first phases of America’s first solar-powered town was underway.

“The idea of an eco-friendly town built from the ground up piqued our interest,” said Stacy. “We were curious, and we made several trips to the community to visit model homes and attend special events.”

For Brian, a software engineer for a Fort Myers-based specialty fashion retailer, and Stacy, who works remotely from home, Babcock Ranch’s location works well. Moving to Babcock Ranch also afforded the Rodecaps a much more active lifestyle, with easy access to amenities for the whole family. They take advantage of the tennis courts and the Jack Peeples Park playground, with its climbing structures, slides and swings. Its pavilion also includes picnic tables, a fireplace and large sun shades.

The Rodecaps are looking forward to the completion of Cypress Lodge, a new 17,000-squarefoot resident amenity that will boast a 1,000-square-foot outdoor clubroom, and a 2,000-square-foot swimming pool with cabanas, fireplaces and grills. With outdoor seating areas with fit pits, and a game lawn with bocce ball, cornhole and horseshoes, Cypress Lodge will be the ideal hangout for the whole family.

“We take full advantage of everything the community has to offer. We especially enjoy biking to Food Truck Fridays and hiking the Dr. Bill Hammond trail behind our house. Our children love riding their bikes to school and to Founder’s Square with their friends,” she said. “They even asked for tennis racquets and fishing poles last Christmas.”

The whole family is immersed in the Babcock Ranch lifestyle, from sports camps to holiday celebrations. Lorelei is on the swim team that practices at the Lee Health Healthy Life Center, and Brian and Stacy are both leaders in the new Cub Scout Pack 1914 based in Babcock Ranch.

The Rodecaps selected the Lake Babcock neighborhood for its proximity to the preserve.

“We watch the sunrise from our lanai, listen to the birds, and watch the deer and rabbits. During sunset, we hang out on the front porch and the kids ride their bikes in the cul-de-sac.”

When they started looking for their Babcock Ranch home, the right combination of floorplan, options and lot eluded them.

“Then we found exactly what we wanted in Lake Babcock with Meritage Homes,” said Stacy. “Instead of endless design options, which can be overwhelming, we simply chose the elevation and package we liked best.”

The Rodecaps selected Meritage Homes’ Osprey Model, with four bedrooms, three baths and 2,185 square feet of living space.

“It’s the perfect floor plan for us, with plenty of space for a growing family and no wasted square footage,” said Stacy.

Meritage’s standard upgrades, including Therma Tru doors, PGT impact windows and spray foam insulation in the attic that reduces the loss of conditioned air, create energy efficient and quiet homes.

“We moved from a home that was 700 square feet smaller, and our utility bills are less here,” said Stacy. “Mertiage’s emphasis on energy efficiency and green building techniques appealed to us because they are both environmentally and budget friendly,” said Stacy. “As a family of allergy sufferers, the air quality provided by the Aprilaire HVAC system has been a welcome change. We feel secure that we chose a solidly built, comfortable home for our family.”

From its respect for the land, to its emphasis on health and education, the Rodecaps know Babcock Ranch was the right choice for their family. They are also impressed by Babcock Neighborhood School’s collaborative projectbased and individual self-directed approach to learning.

“This community truly feels like home in every way,” said Stacy, explaining she and her husband made a conscious decision to instill in their children qualities it takes to be good neighbors and citizens — including service through volunteerism, participation in civic activities, and stewardship of our community.

“We feel that the aspirational goals of Babcock Ranch align well with our own, and we are proud to call it home,” said Stacy.

Babcock Ranch homes offer two to six bedrooms, 1,120 to more than 4,000 square feet of living space, and distinctive architecture that nods to Southwest Florida’s historic vernaculars in one- and two-story designs ranging from the $200s to over $1.5 million.

Babcock National brings golf to Babcock Ranch with a newly opened 18-hole Gordon Lewis-designed course as the centerpiece of Lennar’s new lifestyle community. New designer-furnished models are open for viewing, and a worldclass amenity center will offer a resort-style pool and spa, a clubhouse with fine and casual dining, sports courts and a sports club with a fitness center, yoga and aerobics room, saunas, treatment rooms and a full-service salon.

Within Babcock Ranch’s welcoming neighborhoods, more than two dozen model and dream ready homes are now open or under construction by AR Homes by Arthur Rutenberg, Divco Custom Homes, Florida Lifestyle Homes, Fox Premier Builders, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Pulte Homes, Stock Classic Homes and WCI. Models are open daily.

“The hometown of tomorrow is being created today at Babcock Ranch,” said Syd Kitson, president and CEO of Babcock Ranch’s developer Kitson & Partners. “I invite you to see for yourself the impressive things that are happening here.”
