Babcock Ranch’s Discovery Center is evolving with a 2.0 upgrade. An extensive renovation will usher in even more to explore as the town gets ready to introduce its next chapter: Midtown’s first phase with six new neighborhoods, five new parks, a village green and additional amenities.

“As the town grows, so does the Discovery Center,” said Laura Keller, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Kitson & Partners, the developer of Babcock Ranch. “We have so much information to share with visitors and homebuyers. The center is the first place people stop to get an overview of Babcock Ranch, and we really want to enhance the experience with more interactive and educational displays.”

The renovations include relocating the Cup A Joe coffee shop (and a new state-of-the-art espresso machine) to Square Scoops Coffee & Creamery, and Babcock Ranch merchandise to Slater’s Goods & Provisions. This rearrangement will create more space at the Discovery Center for an expanded children’s area, complete with a miniature version of the town’s landmark Innovation Tower. The area will also feature activities, games and Adirondack chairs under an interactive tree highlighting the town’s commitment to sustainability and energy conservation.

The evolution of the Discovery Center also dedicates more space to Babcock Ranch’s partnership with Florida Power & Light Co. in creating America’s first solar-powered town and the future solar energy education center. The area will offer a complimentary charging station and live feed from the solar array showing real-time solar use and power generation.

As visitors explore the remodeled center, they’ll also learn about Babcock Ranch’s rich history as a cattle and timber farm and its role as a modern-day innovator. Interactive displays, 3D presentations and a 98-inch monitor will showcase the town’s builders, homes and neighborhoods as well as its unique lifestyle focused on health, wellness and community.

Visitors will also discover more information about the town’s events, activities, amenities, schools and outdoor adventures awaiting along a growing network of hiking trails, lakes and parks. They can also venture into the theater to view a 10-minute movie featuring developer Syd Kitson sharing his vision.

The Discovery Center expansion will begin work in August following Cup A Joe’s move to Square Scoops. The facility will remain open during construction, with completion estimated by early September.
